ARNSPARGER'S
Welcome to the Arnsparger's web site
HI, my name is Patricia (Arnsparger) Barley. I was born in Altoona, Pa. in 1948 and am trying to find my ancestors. My cousin Vickie (Arnsparger) Ickes and I have been trying to link back to our relatives from Germany. We have found people that we think are related but, have not been able to connect the two families together. It is my hope that creating this site, might get us a few steps closer to our goal.
Following is a letter we recieved from Gisela Arnsperger from Germany, who was kind enough to respond to our queries.
Thank you very much for your kind letter containing all the information and pictures. We photographed everything and distributed them in the family. We have checked out the family tree again and are now of the opinion that judging by age, only WILHEIM KARL AUGUST ARNSPERGER can be considered, who was born on May 25, 1818 in Murrhandt and whose family later moved to Gschwend. One fo these days I shall go there to carry on some more research in order to learn a little more about their history. Since also his Uncle Johann-Andreas A., born 1779, immagrated to the U.S., it may well be that WILHEIM immagrated to Maryland via Hamburg. Details will have to be further researched in the town ledgers of Gschwend or Murrhardt.
Concerning the name Arnsparger, it may well be the e has been changed to an a to accommodate the American pronunciation, but otherwise it remains identical. This name has nothing to do with the name "Ehrensperger". This family originates from Switzerland. The Arnspergers have always settled in different communities of the southwest German county of Wurttemberg. The oldest fo them lived in Urach, Schwaitheim and Lowenstein (southern Swabia). There is a slight chance that the name Arnsperger can be connected to the old knighted family Von Arnsberg. Exact proof of this does not exist.
You showed a plate with the name Arzberg on it. This is a porcelain maker who as a factory still exists today in Germany. Again, no relation!
We have photocopied the Coat of Arms. Since it is without color, I have redrawn it and have inserted the colors according to heraldic information which is found in the Code of Coat of Arms, Page 12 at the Court and States library in Stuttgart. The Coat of Arms originates from 1550 and has the colors red and silver. In addition, we have a second COA that was worn by my husband's father, but, actually, the first one mentioned can be considered the authentic family Coat of Arms.
Sincerly,
Gisela Arnsperger
Thanks to Gisela Arnsperger for her kindness in giving us the information she had. We still have not linked to her branch of the Arnspargers as of this time. Any help
in linking any of these people would be greatly appriciated. Please e-mail me or
Vickie Ickes with any information you might have.
